看完电视剧不过瘾，买来原著啃。 Margaret Atwood是Leonard Cohen老乡，是科恩老爷子喜欢的前辈作家，在老爷子转行当歌手前写诗的时候，曾对他褒奖有加。原著啃起来不易，对话少，故事性不强，大部分是女主个人心理描写，回忆，观察。所以语言也偏女性，形容词很多，细节描述...

反乌托邦。现在的作家都好像只对探索自己的内心世界感兴趣，Atwood却还在坚持小说是她探讨ethical dilemma的方式。她为女性发声，却不愿成为feminism高举的旗帜。虚构世界里许多事物让人有种熟悉的不安，多种叙述声音的对抗，再加上结尾时间交错的突然转折，层次变得更加丰富，不断回曲，最后回到黑夜。

Things develop slower in the novel but what happens is as intimidating as the drama series / Probably would be a nice case for analyzing with narratology?

It's one of those books where i) the concept is better than the execution; and 2) there is more hard work than ingenuity. When I saw the long list of works by the author I did feel a lot of respect, but maybe this is how far one can go with some passion, a lot of perseverance but limited talent. Literature and art are by nature cruel occupations.
