Chinese society has seen phenomenal change in the last 30 years. Two of the most profound changes have been the rise of the individual in both public and private spheres and the consequent individualisation of Chinese society itself. The book presents a wide range of detailed case studies focusing on the impact of economic policy, patterns of kinship, changes in marriage relations and the socio-economic position of women, the development of youth culture, the politics of consumerism, and shifting power relations in everyday life.

思路没有发展呀

自己以前真的是完全没看懂这本书，。中国社会走向个体化是一个国家推动、全球化还有个人的 agency 相互成就的结果；而“个体化”后的中国个体既有类似西方强调“自我”的一面，也有非常消费主义的一面；但是对 public life 的关注和他人权利的尊重都相对匮乏（我觉得社会制度也得负很大的责任啊）。
