歐立德（Mark C. Elliott），哈佛大學東亞語言與文明係講座教授、哈佛大學曆史與東亞語言博士委員會主席，主要研究領域為清史、內陸亞洲史，是北美漢學界“新清史”研究的重要學者。著有《滿洲之路：八旗製度與清代的民族認同》（The Manchu Way: The Eight Banners and Ethnic Identity in Late Imperial China, 2001）、閤編《新清帝國史：清朝在承德建立的內陸亞洲帝國》（New Qing Imperial History: The Making of Inner Asian Empire at Qing Chengde, 2004）、《鑲紅旗檔案：清代八旗研究指南及東洋文庫所藏史料目錄》（The Archives of the Bordered Red Banner: Research Guide to the Qing Eight Banners and Catalogue of Materials in the Toyo Bunko, 2001）等。

朗文齣版，普及讀本，各入各眼，筆法求活潑而少莊重，目的尚多麵而缺深入，格調重移情個人而輕冷酷權術，拔高到扛鼎地位是自討沒趣，踩低到一文不值又過於極端。所謂新處或在於用一整章談乾隆戊定邊事對於清帝國發展成真正多民族普世性帝國的意義，探究和同時期奧斯曼、沙俄等帝國是否可歸並為同一種帝國史，乾隆眼中傢國一體忠孝治理的理念對邊疆政策的影響，自身在天下一人和穩定帝國形象中的自我陶醉，五大矛盾後果，及乾隆對於中華帝國“前現代性”和“天下普世性”發展到頂峰而又轉嚮衰落的矛盾作用。
