很快翻了一遍，荷兰是今天美利坚国族的源头吗？至少在英国人进驻之前荷兰人就建立了新阿姆斯特丹，即后来的纽约。荷兰宗教自由和商业精神传承下来了，从这个意义上来说，比稍晚新英格兰的清教殖民地更能代表后来的美国，多元化的曼哈顿是美利坚当今最突出的特质。不过，当下的美国社会也是经历重重历史的历程形成的，多种族和族裔一起形成了美利坚的国民性，这样看，荷兰人是其中一股被遗忘而又重新发现的势力吧。
