Tilly這本書現在也是研究早期近代歐洲國傢形成的經典之作，尤其是Tilly從資本與強製這兩個維度解釋歐洲國傢的形成是相當具有解釋力的。不過Tilly將曆史發展進行二分，再通過排列組閤解釋歐洲國傢的特殊性，在某種程度上具有簡化曆史的傾嚮，不過理論構建，尤其是1000年的曆史又需要簡化，這個問題終究在社會科學裏不是問題。
