与《女勇士》不同，这部华裔美国人的回忆录以中国的男性为主角。每一章节前都有对中国传统神话故事或经典故事的改写。能在美国成为畅销书的原因是可想而知的。

无语，最后几页竟然没了，总会提及从前男尊女卑的社会，女性主义思想的萌发。以儿换女的父亲在那一重男轻女的时代过得无奈，国内饥荒文革，国外修路淘金，那一时代的人命途多舛，艰难生存。《其它几个美国人的故事》还不错，送母亲的鬼魂回家；痴迷麦芽和共产主义的宾叔神经大条，害怕在国外被误杀投毒；姨妈和阿福姨父漂泊的生存之旅，还有加州的母亲与新加坡的弟弟分隔多年才打电话的场景，真实而令人唏嘘不已。“50年才打一次电话，什么也没说。”“这就是电话的特性，听到声音就足够了。”

华裔简史或华裔史料趣闻 这个称号更合适吧，虽然是入木三分，抛开滤镜真实背后更加残酷，一百多年，从如蝼蚁卑微的华工一步步到今日浩大的亚裔群体，中华民族骨子里的韧性与勤劳
