看了中译本才突然感受到汤亭亭文字的张力。虽然译本已经很流畅了，但原文里那些充满奇幻感、看了让人精神一振的段落在译本中就失色了很多

与《女勇士》不同，这部华裔美国人的回忆录以中国的男性为主角。每一章节前都有对中国传统神话故事或经典故事的改写。能在美国成为畅销书的原因是可想而知的。

大概nonfiction的成分比《女勇士》多，因此也更杂乱更不好读了，可能对社会学和流散文学的意义更大一点。
