有趣的點有很多,看了這本書再去Met Cloisters的時候能想的就會成倍增長。對我來說最有幫助的是講明白了Gregorian sense of image as that which gestures toward but does not literally contain the divine. 這一點和密宗裡的contained efficacy有很大區別。再一点就是Bynum talks about medieval art as showing off its "stuff" as "stuff", as opposed to the mimetic qualities of renaissance art.
