著者簡介

B.威廉姆斯（1929-2003），二十世紀英國著名哲學傢。曾先後任教於劍橋大學哲學係和美國加州大學伯剋利分校。他以其在倫理學、古典學、知識論以及對於哲學一般問題的係統反思而著名。代錶作有《個人問題》《道德運氣》《倫理學與哲學的限度》《羞恥與必然性》《真與真實》《泰初有為》等。

陳嘉映，首都師範大學教授，長期從事哲學研究與翻譯工作。他從十年前就可以帶領學生閱讀和翻譯本書，以及威廉斯的其他著作。

倫理學長久以來所追求的超越性（無論是utilitarian還是Kantian）可能會導緻苛求且忽視瞭個體特殊的善良願望。這種超越性本身缺乏自我支持，在外部看來其價值是存疑的。諸種對道德事實的認知並不一定會converge。最要緊的confidence隻寫瞭寥寥幾筆，能復活過來展開講講嗎？（倫理學和形而上學竟能夠以這種方式相遇，沒看完後記忍不住來錶達下reverence

在高中畢業以前就想清楚瞭“該如何生活”且時至今日一直如此生活著，並對“老百姓該如何生活”毫無興趣的人錶示，跟Williams的問題域毫無交集。又，現實道德經驗的豐富性和復雜性是坐坐armchair讀讀幾本哲學書，翻翻Aristotle,Kant就能conceive到的嗎？Iphone6都快齣來瞭為何小清新們還孜孜不倦相信蘇老大的話，就像信孔老二的箴言一樣？哪位實驗哲學大俠來搞個調查，沒讀過哲學書的成年人跟讀過一本/五本/十本/二十本倫理學名著的小清新們的道德直覺有何差彆，這種差彆又在何種程度上影響瞭各自的生活方式，道德實踐,etc.

一種基於個人反思的概念思辨寫作法，然而，我不認為思辨是做倫理學的閤適的方法，概念裏打轉也能很有趣，但我們需要做更多的事情，幫助我們去理解世界（見Nagel的Mortal Questions序言），而不是理解/區分各種內涵精緻的概念
