150623-151102 越南实习第二周百无聊赖时开始在办公室里看的，在首尔飞华盛顿14个小时的航班上看完了。写得不错的入门书。印象最深的好像是作者提到哥斯拉怪兽片的兴起和核能的利用以及工业发展导致的环境污染的联系，回到jhu查课表发现还真的有一门于此有关的环境史的课 haha

实在太概括了，同时因为注释少很难估计事实和评论的可靠度

内容非常introductory又引人思考。就写作上而言，真是模范开头，中间严格地控制节奏，再加上模范结尾。大家都说开头重要，但是这么好的结尾好久没看到过了。There is a question the author leads from the beginning to the end.

I am curious, why China and Japan chose totally different attitude toward so-called great power of western world. And I wonder after I read this book, if it were China that had played the role to lead the process of modernization of east Asia, then could China, Japan and Korea be transformed into an entity which could resist Western culture?
