It has therefore had to devote much of its wealth to the armed forces, and the sheer size of the empire has made it difficult to mobilise resources and to govern effectively, especially given the diversity of its people.

评分Russian history is very similar to ours.
评分不愧是一本很好的通识读物，但简史很能看出作者的兴趣点。二战的篇幅只有一个自然段、半页纸，著名的XX大帝们也简短到不行，然而作者着力的是民生、民族和民意，是相当西化的角度。
