评分利用寫論文的拖延間隙看完瞭。不愧是美國國傢圖書獎得主，文筆異常精彩流暢。不過可能因為定位是非學術書籍，很多檔案資料來源不明，讓人懷疑資料考證的準確性。

评分書中的人物故事與Orlando Figes的A People's Tragedy、Isaiah Berlin十九世紀Russian Thinkers參照同讀，先有一種巨大的陌生感——俄國Romanov王朝以來，局限在東方專製傳統和歐洲改革曆程之間徘徊，於極端之間搖擺，難有一個中間道路可以選擇，思想人物的曆程也是如此。但是如此眾多的男女尋找道路的勇氣，正是這種勇氣會帶來很大的陌生感受，其二便是強烈的熟悉味道，好比蘇聯有高爾基，中國有郭沫若，這一點也就毋須諱言瞭。
