作為國圖以及今年英語小說的各種奬項的大熱門，實在是分量不夠！美國文學怎麼最近下降的如此厲害？黑人文學的崛起？甚至不如莫裏森啊。腦洞是非常大，但是除此之外，除瞭司空見慣的黑奴受虐和白人幫助，真的看不到太多，就連情感交鋒的深度都是以前老舊的。當然，美國人看曆史的眼光自然跟我不一樣，他們帶著更多的反思在看，我隻能是一個旁觀者，書中角色很多，但是總覺得不夠深入，太淺錶，動機和想法都非常直接，最後的大屠殺固然慘，但是女主人公Cora纔是真的不爭氣！如果她早點去北方，哪有這些事啊，貪圖眼前的安逸，帶來一連串的災難，結果大傢都被她害死瞭，她又逃跑齣來，真是有點無語。不過，好在仍然算好看，很緊張。美國作傢很考慮當下的讀者，書都越寫越淺顯，難有大器。

這本書的意義顯然是重大的，並不是為瞭政治正確纔說的。然而可能是從文學角度，真的不是很impressed。這麼好的故事綫，卻寫的一點不吸引人。

為奴十幾年的Cora心中一直深深怨恨曾經拋棄自己的母親。在偶然的機會裏踏上瞭逃亡之旅。她披荊斬棘，曾經也有過短暫的“安穩”，但更多的是不停的逃離和躲避Ridgeway 的逮捕。緊張又驚心動魄的路上，她失去瞭同伴，幫助她的白人夫婦也慘遭毒手。最後的真相也許Cora永遠不會知道。
