书没有想象中难读，但也决不容易，读得我把留了十来天的指甲都啃了……大部分内容都是第一次译成英文。文章分三组，分别围绕维科、时间和passio展开，第三部分的文章相互关联不如前两部分的紧。书前有详细的导言，书后指出了进一步学习的门径。译文总体而言还是很好的。重译的文章有译者和前辈故意较劲的痕迹。读下来收获很多，最重要的是贯穿奥尔巴赫学术思想的两点：第一点很明显，即小学与大学的结合；更重要的是第二点，即历史与神意的结合。
