评分有一点不太喜欢：作者在前几章写了太多叙述者自己的家庭史，后面看起来联系并没有那么紧密。虽然这本书不能单一地读成一部悬疑小说，重心还是在Smith和Wilson两家人的悲剧上面，而叙述人自己母亲早亡父亲娶了继母等等虽然也是他童年记忆很重要的一部分，总觉得占了太多笔墨（或者作者是希望通过描写叙述者自己童年经历中家庭不算完满，来证明叙述者能充分理解比他更不幸的Cletus所经历的家庭变故？并对自己当年在学校没主动跟他讲话感到深深自责？）很佩服作者能在这么小的篇幅里（几乎可以算是一本novella)把一件我们已经知道结局的童年往事描写得如此搅动人心，人物视角的不断转换也让读者对事件的把握更加全面，尤其是小狗Trixie的视角和结局还给整本书增添了魔幻色彩，两个家庭的破裂对所有人造成的影响可见一斑。
