奥古斯丁的很多神学见解成为了后世基督信仰的基础。从这本自传里可以看出他很多见解的根源。比如奥古斯丁认识到作为小孩的自己并不是纯洁无暇的，反倒是经常以作恶为乐，这可能直接影响到他后来对原罪的理解。另外，在读的过程中由于经常心生同感，经常忘了本书成于五世纪初，距今已有一千六百年了。

这本书的写作风格，尤其是对上帝的态度，很像是Upanishads里面对待诸神的态度。只不过Upanishads是和The Scripture一个档次的神籍，而此书只是一个忠实教徒的忏悔。 其实Augustine之所以能红，主要是因为他是草根明星，曾经他就是个地头蛇小混混，后来在自家后花园里幻听之后...
