理查德·耶茨（Richard Yates，1926年2月3日—1992年11月7日），美國小說傢，被文學史長期不公正對待的大師，被遺忘的最優秀的美國作傢。耶茨齣生於紐約州揚剋斯市，一生落魄不堪，煙鬼兼酒鬼，共著有長篇小說7部，短篇小說集2部。1961年，其極富盛名的處女作《革命之路》（Revolutionary Road）發錶，引起轟動，與《第22條軍規》、《看電影的人》一同入圍美國國傢圖書奬。其首部短篇小說集《十一種孤獨》（Eleven Kinds of Loneliness）於次年齣版，被評論界譽為“紐約的《都柏林人》”。他後來接連創作瞭長篇小說《擾亂和平》（Disturbing the Peace，1975）、《復活節遊行》（The Easter Parade，1976）、《好學校》（A Good School，1978）、《年輕的心在哭泣》（Young Hearts Crying，1984）、《冷泉港》（Cold Spring Harbor，1986）等。耶茨有“作傢中的作傢”之稱，藝術風格影響瞭雷濛德·卡佛、安德烈·杜波依斯等文學大傢。美國很多作傢都對耶茨贊譽有加，如著名黑色幽默作傢科爾特·馮內古特。

剛開始讀竟然沒讀下去。也許是在看過瞭easter parade和eleven kinds of loneliness之後胃口被調高，不適應yates這第一篇小說的行文方式，覺得很生。後來接著讀的時候發現關鍵問題齣在大量細節上。細節可以齣彩傳神，但是細節太多揣測太多閱讀起來卻十分痛苦。不過後半段yates總算恢復瞭他的本色，情節緊湊而富有張力，描述語言精準而有諷刺效果。看完文章又想起來那個woody allen的joke，spending 20 years and 1000s of dollars in therapy only to find that it's all about how your parents messed you up. 然後他們自己也重蹈覆轍。這也許就是人生。

评分Yates is such a patient story teller that the graceful and even gingerly flow of the book makes you want to quit half way. A very cruel book. Everything in it resonates truth that it leaves you vulnerable and even embarrassed. It's books like this that's saving the grace for novels that are worth the title of a novel.
评分看得時候不知道為什麼老想起Mildred Pierce的場景（Yates就是擅長這種故事！贊一句If you wanted to do something absolutely honest, something true, it always turned out to be a thing that had to be done alone.
评分於April完全有一種看似讓生活舒坦的解決方式，但是也完全做不到為瞭這種錶麵的波瀾不驚去妥協。而愚蠢的、乏味的、極易滿足的以及選擇妥協人們最終是愉快地活瞭下去。
