Ralph，华裔美国人，在美国有一家人住在一起：妻子Helen，姐姐Teresa，2个女儿Mona和Callie。搬过几次家，换过几项工作（教授、炸鸡店老板），都为了过上更好的生活。姐姐Teresa高龄剩女，和Ralph住在一起，其间有个已婚男人Old Chao追求，最终在接近结尾的时候因为被Ralph开车误撞而住院、昏迷不醒。Ralph误撞是因为先前发现了妻子Helen和前商业伙伴Grover有一腿，于是火大开车载着妻子乱串，跟她对质。Ralph从教授转行去做快餐店老板，为了更多钱，但是最终也失败了，被Grover坑了钱和人（其间有意思的是把自己养的狗就叫Grover）。结尾的时刻Teresa醒来，叫Ralph过去医院，在描写Ralph不知如何面对姐姐的回忆中结束。
