你是谁？全球化的时代，回答这个问题益发艰难。远游日久，讲述家乡的时候渐渐变得语焉不详，对于很多事情都失去了发言权。无论是他乡还是故乡，总是要面对着一方对另一方的想象和敌意，不断被逼迫着靠近二者之间的夹缝，最终不再属于任何一方。无法属于所在之处，也无法回到最初的故乡。

整体内容与《Americanah》非常相似，主角都是从非洲国家“逃”到美国的女孩，都涉及文化差异和种族问题，我最喜欢的一节是Darling姑妈旧情人的婚礼，完全是一幅非洲移民众生相。但We Need New Names文采明显逊色，思想深度也一般。当然Darling童年在津巴布韦的经历确实够直观够难忘，但有猎奇迎合西方读者的嫌疑；最关键的是主角性格有点被湮没，而且到最后也没有找到出路，让我感觉作者其实自己也还在彷徨：因为她既不完全属于美国，也永远回不到最初的家乡。靠后有一部分抱怨生活艰难，几乎脱离了小说人物，而是作者直抒胸臆。这种方式当然情绪饱满，但降低了可读性和连贯性。
