The break-up of the Ottoman empire and the disintegration of the Russian empire were watershed events in modern history. 非常好看。历史学家利用国家形成和帝国理论，围绕奥斯曼帝国和俄罗斯帝国在高加索对不同群体的利用进行叙事。解释为何奥斯曼帝国最终选择了土耳其化，而俄罗斯在一战前和一战中始终没有对高加索地区明确清晰的战略。这个经验个案和理论选择做得很好，并没有感到社会学作品中常见的理论和经验材料脱节。
