著者简介

Neil MacGregor has been the director of the British Museum since 2002; prior to that, he was the director of the National Gallery in London. A popular presenter on BBC television and radio, he was named Briton of the Year in 2008. He lives in England.

一百件按时代排序的馆藏器物，一百个各自独立却又遥相呼应的小故事，除了作者本人的忠实描绘与史料呈现，还夹杂着许多相关人物的评论。这一百个章节每一个读起来都兴致盎然，串联起来就成为一整个人类文明史的大略脉络。对我这个考古和历史的爱好者和门外汉来说，真是爱不释手的好读物。

从世界史（而不是艺术史）角度讲述展品

其实把这本书作为大英博物馆的参观指南或者路线图有些不合适，因为所选的很多文物的价值其实在于“背后”，当然按图索骥如果能回忆起这些背后的故事也是很有收获的。看完最大的感慨就是专家和普通人的最大区别就在于这些“背后”的知识。建议直接看英文版，文字很好，也不太难懂。

好创意，长知识。要是选题和解说能更注重文物的考古和艺术价值，不要刻意追求社会价值就更好了。
