Pierre Bourdieu's "Distinction" brilliantly illuminates the social pretentions of the middle classes in the modern world, focusing on the tastes and preferences of the French bourgeoisie. First published in 1979, the book is at once a vast ethnography of contemporary France and a dissection of the bourgeois mind. In the course of everyday life, we constantly choose between what we find aesthetically pleasing, and what we consider tacky, merely trendy, or ugly. Taste is not pure. Bourdieu demonstrates that our different aesthetic choices are all distinctions - that is, choices made in opposition to those made by other classes. This fascinating work argues that the social world functions simultaneously as a system of power relations and as a symbolic system in which minute distinctions of taste become the basis for social judgement.

著者簡介

布爾迪厄（1930-2002），當代法國著名思想傢、社會學傢。主要著作有《實踐理論綱要》《國傢精英：名牌大學與群體精神》《再生産》《藝術的法則》《區分：判斷力的社會批判》。在這些著作中，布爾迪厄藉助其“習性”、“資本”、“場”等概念，對資本主義社會進行瞭深刻的批判。

譯者

劉暉，1970年生，法國文學博士，中國社會科學院外國文學研究所副研究員。譯著有《色情史》《藝術的法則》《男性統治》《帕斯卡爾式的沉思》《自我分析綱要》等。

讀此書本來是想學點社會學方法，讀完纔發現能學的隻是二流學者的著作，真正的大牛所用的手法是隻能望洋興嘆而學不瞭的。此書沒有完全讀懂，因為比較囉嗦，而且布爾迪厄太喜歡造新詞瞭，什麼allodoxia、trajectory effect，讀半天纔搞懂是什麼意思，所以第一遍根本不可能完全理解。

再拿齣來則隻是選擇將後半部分的方法認真讀讀，問捲的設計和整個調查社會過程的反思纔是核心的科學之科學。

虽然自己没有读布迪厄的这本英文版的区隔，但最近两周罗卡的课一直在讲这本书，今天连彬更是很详细地讲了这本书的前半部分的内容。他里面主要是讲文化资本、经济资本二者所形成的社会结构对于个人的品味的塑造，不同阶级、不同阶层对于食物、文化与自我呈现的选择显示出非常大...
