歐美的財富積累很大程度上是掠奪，無論是北美還是南美，由於白人的入侵使得當地的原住民銷聲匿跡。光看小說的名字就知道是個驚心動魄的悲劇故事。那些為被開墾的土地上的人用生命保衛家園，結局卻都一樣，不甚唏噓。

作品不仅是库柏的最著名作品，就是在同类题材中，也是数一数二的佳作。 故事的背景还是发生在英法刚开始殖民美洲大陆时期，双方在进行着战争，而双方都有着印第安部队盟友。而作者做为英国后裔，显然立场明确，所以在故事中不仅正面描写英国人和英军，还刻意写出的法国人的背信...

这半年来学习工作都很忙，差不多用了两个月才看完这本书。总体来说还不错，如果是在小学，初中那个看小说的高潮期看这种书应该会比较喜欢。全书的高潮在最后，在那里才想起来书名的含义，也不自主地想假如男2号（实际上应该是男1号）和女1号不献身一下，这本书就连高潮也没了。...

从图书馆借来的原版书，里面不认识的单词一大堆。但是看下来以后觉得还是很不错的，很容易投入至作者描述的那个环境当中去。
