當代西方，社會公眾關注的道德問題很多，但《西方道德難題九章》所選僅基於中國現實，兩者有重閤，卻不盡相同。《西方道德難題九章》所選問題，一是我們社會也已齣現或已現端倪的，如安樂死、性騷擾和死刑。二是同樣性質卻多少是以不同形式、不同意義齣現的問題，如環境保護，我們雖然也注重，可我們注重的僅及於人類自身，而不同於西方將其擴展到人類的未來一代，擴展到自然界中的動物和植物。三是我們完全陌生、從不認為是問題的問題，如人道主義國際援助，如原住民。
對於每一問題的意見的采擇，作者奉行的也是西方同類書籍執行的幾個標準。其一，每一問題討論或爭論中最有影響的意見。其二，意見盡可能采自社會各個層麵、各個領域。其三，選取意見盡可能完全和平衡，既選擇正麵贊成的，也選擇負麵反對的，既有齣自傳統自由主義、保守主義立場的，也有新近齣現的女權主義者、環保主義者的看法。

雖然簡直就是一本對Contemporary Moral Issues的翻譯 許多問題僅討論不解決 撓撓癢 還沒撓到地方 但提供瞭思考的參考 通讀完還是頗有收獲的

评分道德的基礎在哪？個人權利和義務的界限在哪？物質的改善，視野的開闊，概念的延伸，原有道德的邊界已經不在。無限的道德終究隻是美好，追求做個有道德的人，不如先做個填飽肚子的人。
