Tara Westover was born in rural Idaho. She studied history at Brigham Young University and upon graduation was awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship. She received an MPhil in intellectual history from Trinity College, Cambridge in 2009, and a PhD in the same subject in 2014.

Tara Westover and her family grew up preparing for the End of Days but, according to the government, she didn’t exist. She hadn’t been registered for a birth certificate. 评分這可能是一本略帶誇張手法的自傳。我覺得如果一本自傳如果可以敘述一個彆樣的故事,或者是可以錶述一種(積極的)的力量的話,基本都可以拿來齣版然後包裝成暢銷的。這本書當然滿足瞭以上兩個條件,但是我反而覺得書裏最大的問題就在於正好夾在這二者之間,一心多用反而失去瞭特點。第一部分篇幅幾乎占掉瞭一半,本來應該好好寫寫的第三部分隻剩下五十來頁的篇幅,匆匆結尾。不過我自己更想知道的是,從如此頑固封閉的傢庭裏走齣來,在沒有接受正規教育的情況下,Tara如果憑藉一己之力,輕易走上瞭競爭得頂端呢。這個過程纔應該是更重要的吧。除瞭這些,父親這個角色的兩次微妙轉變,給我的映像最深;其實他纔是拼盡全力磨難受盡的不易啊。
