這本的文筆一般。納博科夫記得是說過，一流作傢let the course of action reveals itself，而不是顯山露水地寫悲愁（paraphrase, 非原句）。domestic wife + color clashes的題材屢見不鮮吧，讀的時候常常想起Denis的chocolat。
