The reading experience has been quite depressing, yet I was depressed in a positive way. The thoughts stretch on towards an exploration of the meaning of existence. How can an individual feel that he or she has been recognized by this universe. Can we really understand each other? And above all, where is the salvation of misunderstanding?

這本算是打發過去瞭，下兩周分彆是Mrs. Dalloway 和The Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man。而且我實在不喜歡這本最簡單的，所以我的兩篇作業就要處理後麵這兩本瞭，殺瞭我吧。

Forster的失望到底有多徹底？不止是兩個截然不同的民族不能相互尊重和理解，而且地理遷移和文化錯置甚至像《黑暗之心》一樣讓人的道德變質，英國紳士淑女的風度禮儀蕩然無存，一個個醜陋到極點。人和人的交流也總是磕碰糾結，要麼欲言又止，要麼謊話連篇，或者經常乾脆不知道是誰在說話。生活就像當地的氣候燥熱難忍毫無樂趣可言。讀這種書真煩死人。摔。

2010.8.5 ...They said in their hundred voices 'No, not yet,' and the sky said 'No, not there.' 生平看過寫得最好的關於東西方文化差異的書。我摯愛的Forster啊，你筆下每一個字都細膩得讓我不敢直視。我明明很不喜歡同性愛，可是為什麼就是這麼愛同性愛作傢呢？！Forster shelters me from the rest of the world, offers me the ultimate tranquility, and helps me see beauty.

对于大英帝国的殖民地的观点来说，一类显然是吉卜林，认为这是大英帝国的光荣，给殖民地带来了文明（《吉姆》）；另一类应该就是奥威尔（《缅甸岁月》）。那么究竟是怎么样呢？要是以前我可能会说奥威尔的更“正确”，因为我毕竟是个半殖民地的后代。但看完此书后我觉得也...
