著者簡介

Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar (1901-1962) was a poet, short story writer, novelist, essayist, literary historian, and professor. He is considered one of the most significant Turkish novelists of the 20th century. Deeply influenced by Valery and Bergson, he created a unique cultural universe in his work, bringing together a European literary voice and the sensibilities of the East.

Pankaj Mishra 的序言輕而易舉地描繪齣瞭小說中西方現代社會的官僚主義牢籠，所以唐帕納爾纔會被視為一位傷感的保守主義者，與無情的凱末爾主義者針鋒相對。但Mishra卻很少提及唐帕納爾的小說跟精神生活、時間哲學、現代機械、物質文化之間微妙的互動。好歹唐帕納爾熟讀柏格森，再想想如今標準化時間在現代化的伊斯蘭社會中所扮演的作用（封齋和禮拜），私人的時間和集約的時間之間如何妥協也可以是小說的重要主題。
