扉頁有兩張插圖，一張是狄更斯的oliver twist 另一張是簡.奧斯丁的諾桑覺寺。仿佛英國文學的宮殿的兩站桃符門神。緩緩推開英國（英語）文學的沉重大門。內容語帶戲謔卻充滿善意，時時讓人莞爾。但是書中每個條目的梗概性介紹不詳細，更適閤齣於興趣閱讀的讀者，對於做參考書有點不妥。已經對英語文學有所涉獵的話纔會有慧心靈犀的感覺。當然，如果隻是希望通過此書瞭解不同英語文學文體風格，是很好的。很多條目，都有原文節錄。比如：亞當貝德的條目就會有原文的第一章。以瞭解喬治艾略特風格。是一本好書啊。
