E.R.A. Sewter was a well-known Byzantine scholar.

Peter Frankopan is a senior research fellow at Worcester College, Oxford, and the author of a major monograph about Byzantium in the eleventh and twelfth centuries based on The Alexiad.

Komnenian朝代的Alexios I的戰爭史詩。其中有意思的Alexios與諾曼領袖Robert Guiscard的戰爭和對第一次十字軍東徵的描述。成書於Manuel為皇帝之時，12世紀中期。拉丁西方的影響深入到拜占庭宮廷。作者隱約涉及瞭她對當權皇帝的批評和對第二次十字軍東徵的看法。

一本對想瞭十字東徵曆史的人必讀的書，也是精羅必讀之書之一。在書中，安娜處處稱呼這個被現在的人們習慣稱為拜占庭帝國的國傢為羅馬，這個國傢的人是羅馬人。一個延續瞭近兩韆年的國度。和其它曆史資料不同的是安娜作為一名女性，其筆調帶有女性獨有的感性。你可以感受到她的愛，她的恨。她的情感細膩而真實地融入瞭書的每一章、每一行。當讀到她寫到她父親在death bed時的段落，皇後的絕望和不放棄，公主們帶著希望的絕望，頭通過安娜的筆展現在我的眼前，無法不讓人對其父的去世感到惋惜，且因為她們真摯的悲痛而落淚。最後一冊斷斷續續的脫漏尤其讓人覺得安娜因為悲痛而筆不成調。更能迴想想起前文阿列剋謝戎馬倥傯，少有安歇的一生。後人為之唏噓不已。
