楊志成（Ed Young）是繪本大師，屢獲美國童書最高榮譽凱迪克獎（Caldecott Award）。1931年他在天津出生，在香港完成高中課程，廿一歲遠赴美國，就讀於伊利諾大學建築系，後轉到洛杉磯藝術學校攻讀。楊志成創作了近八十本童書，不少直接取材中國傳統故事。其中《狼婆婆》就獲得了凱迪克金獎，改編自成語故事「瞎子摸象」的《七隻瞎老鼠》也得到金獎。他的繪本以拼貼為主，畫面豐富，每一張都是藝術作品。

楊志成的中國性格畫風絕對是最強烈又搶眼的，以這樣的手法來詮釋流傳已久的民間故事，並非容易的事，因為要是少了獨見與創新，很容易就會被譏為是“發祖宗財”的行徑。楊志成的功力與能耐當然不僅於此，更難能可貴的是他在面對兒童讀者創作時，絲毫不減其水暈墨染的氣勢，以他在藝術上的修為與創見，無論是面對海內、外的華人或非華人群眾，都足以擔得起大師的名銜。
