著重讀瞭導論以及和佛教相關的第二、三、六章，導論以及第三章中Yoshiko Ashiwa關於“現代國傢”這個概念的發展脈絡以及如何從新的角度去理解中國政教之間的動態關係（而非單嚮的壓迫與被壓迫關係）的討論有意思；第二章中Timothy Brook運用對明律和明清期間gazetteer的文獻研究去說明上世紀七十年代末以來的regulatory state模式可以追溯到王朝統治時期；第六章David Wank主要是以廈門普陀寺為例子去講述各個相關組織背後的權力發展以及對寺廟運營、廈門佛教整體産生的影響。感覺最有意思的其實是Ashiwa在The Question of Belief and Religion這一節提齣的關於everyday/popular Buddhism的問題。
