Like title of the book has suggested, the novel is as fragmental as an experimental movie could be, which serves as a metaphor reflecting the huge change taking place in China. Besides, "ravenous" is a word good enough to define the heroine, who symbolizes the vicissitudes of a typical Chinese country girl in struggle for her so-called identity.
