Generally, it is believed that Chinese New Year pictures originated from Gate-God picture of Han dynasty, and the term “New Year picture” occurred during Qing dynasty. At the beginning, New Year pictures were only used to convey blessing. As time went by, this form of art has extended to reflect social and daily life of the new China after establishment in 1949. This book presents carefully-selected New Year pictures created from the 1950s to 1990s, and categorizes them into the following chapters: portraits, celebration events, military affairs and national defense, International affairs, folk life, traditional festivals, national unity, and cultural education. 评分整體上看,較同係列的另一本政治色彩更加淡一些,當然可讀性也就差一點。但是因為主要是中國的年畫,所以中國傳統畫風格十分鮮明,50年代常見的蘇式風格宣傳畫在這本書裏比較少見。還是老問題,選的圖但不很具有代錶性。
