霍克的老福仿作，有几篇如果不是挂上老福的名字，我还以为在读山姆霍桑。尽管如此，能再次读到霍克真是太好了

霍克的短篇数量那么多，然而他几乎将最好的点子都集中在霍桑医生系列，其余系列的水准其实并不理想。这本致敬作，和卡尔那本《福尔摩斯的功绩》相差无几，若不“背离”原作，在不可能犯罪上大造文章，不是忠实福迷的话，看头终究不大。《马戏团花魁》与《庄园宅邸探案记》两篇算是矮个儿挑的高个，最后一篇《泰坦尼克号冒险记》以柯南·道尔的处女作《约翰·史密斯的告白》的主人公之名为桥梁，将福尔摩斯与福翠尔无缝链接在一起，手法很是独特，但是由于篇幅有限，加上谋杀过于简单，本可以写得更好的，实在可惜。
