Too often, infant mental health and early intervention are handled separately even though these two realms are not mutually exclusive when treating infants and young children. Based on the idea that infant mental health and early intervention should be dealt with together, this book aims to inform practitioners who are not trained in mental health on the importance of incorporating aspects of infant mental health assessment and intervention in all other areas of early intervention. With an extensive history of early intervention practices and infant mental health, this book explains why infant mental health should be a part of early intervention programs and settings. Infant Mental Health in Early Intervention taps into the current thoughts and feelings of practitioners through the use of real interviews with the individuals who are out there trying to incorporate infant mental health with early intervention services now, possibly without much guidance or support.
