英國倫敦大學教育學院專設有“卡爾·曼海姆講座教授”席位（Karl Mannheim Professor ），並讓教育學院最著名的教授講授教育社會學。目前的講座教授就是Stephen Ball，這個當前西方最著名的教育社會學傢。這本書是Ball的代錶作。第一次聽說這本書，是在曾榮光老師的短期課程中聽來的。下學期給研究生開設的教育政治學專題課程中，此書亦是重要參考文獻。另：也許多年之後，這本書終於在中國教育學界徹底火瞭，Stephen Ball和Michael Apple、Michael Young等人也真正開始齊名和平行，大傢都開始瘋狂引用Ball的書，那麼學界是否還能記得我們這些最早接觸這本書的人呢～
