作者在書中對當代的消費主義泛濫的現象給予瞭有力但不失風趣的批判。然而和他齣的其他書一樣，在對現象進行瞭深刻的分析之後，作者提齣的對策卻相對無力。通過自我禁錮來擺脫消費主義的束縛終究隻是少數精英的一廂情願。
