This “little history” takes on a very big subject: the glorious span of literature from Greek myth to graphic novels, from The Epic of Gilgamesh to Harry Potter. 很好阅读（生词少）的一本书，事实证明，原著比译本更能给我许多惊喜。
评分不枯燥又干货满满的好书，作者把文学和其所在的环境（context）写得很清楚。内容还很全面，不仅有作家和作品，还有对体裁的介绍、版权、图书国际化、阅读习惯、图书奖等内容（当然篇幅所限作品不可能讲解的特别详细）。作者是多年研究教授文学的教授，语言易懂还挺幽默。耶鲁小历史系列真的是宝藏啊宝藏。

评分Sutherland的文字十分易读，每章篇幅有恰到好处，是本合格的枕边书。看罢此书不由又去淘了一本作者此前的类文学评论集，并依本书提及的书目在待读单上多添了几笔。
评分和他早年 TTC的课程基本一致，确切的说就说“英文文学史”加点希腊神话史诗。感觉大学英国文学课用这个当课外教材不错，浅显优美主流。
