Astounding. Powerfully moving.

第一次给我机会使用appalling 这个词的书，惨绝人寰，丧心病狂，书的后半部分竟然还有超越前半部分的悲剧高潮。理当让人哭成傻逼的书，结果“震惊”本身对理智的拷问压倒性灭绝了愤怒与悲伤的任何人伦情绪，完全无法代入同情的成分，连可怜她们这件事也做不到

读大学的时候，在晚上的专业课上偷偷看这本书，居然看得热泪盈眶。女人有时柔弱，但有时却坚强得可怕。每一个默默付出，在灾难来临时依然维护自己家庭的女人，她们也有过青春洋溢的年华，也作为别人的女儿被宠爱过。长大了，结婚了，有孩子了，才慢慢学会承担痛苦。 我的妈妈，...  

在大学里读的书中，这本算是印象深刻之一 记得那时，为那些好女人们感到痛苦，痛苦得看不下去．．． 然而又忍不住再去看，又为她们的力量，她们的意志，为她们的坚强感到佩服，为之感动． 女人，有时候到了极端状况时，表现出来的，也许真的会比男人强得多． 因为那是一种发自...  

这本书也是一个外国朋友推荐的。这是巧合吗？ 不是！！ 老外喜欢用审视和猎奇的态度来看待中国。 所以这个作者就以此来吸引眼球。 她以为只有她活在民主、幸福、自由之下吗？ 如果这本书是70或者80年代出的，我能理解。 可作者着手写的时候已经97年了，有没有搞错啊？ ------...

书中的故事很好看。例如，把苍蝇当宠物的女孩；唐山地震母亲的采访，也让人震撼。 当小说读，胜过当社会学书籍来读。  

这本书里面写50年代到90年代这一段时期里许多女人的故事，说实在的，我对历史一直都不感冒，然而看这本书，我了解到许多以前在历史课本上没接触过的事情。那个时代，造就了许多好女人，然后这些好女人的命运大多都是悲剧，终于知道什么是时代的无奈了。
