这本书靠近600页，想一口气看完显然是不可能的，不过前序说是“英语学习者的必备入门书”，就未免有些过了，稍微翻了前面几页，总感觉那种英式汉语的译文不算对自己的胃口，感觉比GOOGLE机器翻译好一点，然后看了一下译者介绍，原来是一位长期旅居海外的华人翻的，怪不得呢，英...

正如该书的前言所说，现在很多人都在学习英语，但是真正为英语而“英语”的人却并不多。换言之，更多的人是处于功利的态度来学习，而不是把英语当成个人的爱好，从语言学习中感受到各个文化之间的差异。 所以，很多人往往在学了N年的英语之后仍然不知英语究竟为何物，除了死记...  

其实翻译的水平还是可以的，这本书也是英语史著作中最通俗的一本，David Crystal也推荐过。不过有点Anglo-saxon中心论。我更喜欢John Mcwhorter的野史版。  

见过自恋的，没见过像本书翻译如此自恋的，从头到尾一直在注释中发表高深的见解，什么“字典上如何如何翻译，我觉得不对”，“大家都翻译成****，但我觉得不好”之类的屁话。Singlish明明就是“新加坡英语”或“新加坡式的英语”，好像不翻译成“新格利系”就不能显示自己的翻...
