In J. L. Living in the bell tower, surrounded by the resplendent countryside of high summer, and laboring each day to uncover an anonymous painter's depiction of the apocalypse, Birkin finds that he himself has been restored to a new, and hopeful, attachment to life. But summer ends, and with the work done, Birkin must leave. Now, long after, as he reflects on the passage of time and the power of art, he finds in his memories some consolation for all that has been lost.

因为电影的缘故，借了书来看。一开始看前面michael holroyd的介绍就觉得J.L.Carr具有类似于钱钟书的风格，一样的俏皮和促狭，Ellerbeck Literary Award那段真是好玩。等开始看正文，时不时地就看到一点围城的味道。一点点自嘲，一点点讽刺（当然，JLC的讽刺要温柔多了），还...
