Tey is so very readable. One can't help appreciating her writing lines such as "It is very dreadful being suspended from a spider's thread" in a detective story, or letting two cops discussing poems in the middle of detecting. A good mystery can be a good novel too, if its author cared and had enough faith in her readers.
