对清末民国的印象，多为名士大家，底层的人民生活读的只有白鹿原等几部。不愧是赛珍珠获奖的代表作。从一个常年居住中国的美国人的视角，元素熟悉又陌生，有些家庭关系处理在今天也是很常见。现而今的年轻人很喜欢提及梦想，王龙和阿兰没有梦想，只有坚韧朴实的生命，生孩子也可以自己完成，用芦苇隔断脐带，生产后照样给公公做饭。文笔也非常优美，是可以仔细揣摩的小说。姜文说拍电影的小说，只能读一遍认真读，在读就是亵渎了。我猜这部可以归入此类。

太写实了，人物情节都不那么引人入胜。坚持看完以后发现她对农村生活的观察非常细致——“原教旨主义，性别歧视，种族歧视，对残障人士的歧视” 到今天还是没有太大改变。

故事其实挺简单的，对中国农民的了解是有一些，但是刻画的比较粗。整个故事太过于温情，不够深刻，至少对于那个悲惨的时代。让人深思的是，土地与中国“根”文化的关系，一切源于土地。而今，土地已不是私有物，我们渐渐已经忘记自己了吧……

拜读完毕。首个美国女性诺贝尔的作品（1938年）。在当时是美国深入认知中国这个遥远国家的重要桥梁。行文和人物塑造倒也不出彩，获奖更多可能是当时的社会影响力，以及整体一种暗涌的感觉，特别是读到最后时，那种宿命与轮回的体验无法用语言描述。可能这就是文学于一般小说的区别之处。
