美國立國之初的意識形態博弈。這本書寫得再好不過，所以肯定五星；不過作者偏嚮傑斐遜，而我更認同亞當斯，美國例外論不但荒唐而且非常危險。

评分The Collaborator一章還不錯，傑斐遜也宣告瞭partisan politics正式到來
评分本來100頁可以解決的事情硬是給寫成瞭250頁。太多的close reading和重復，但是確實有好多有趣的insights
评分作者那種遠觀曆史的sense of detachment和曆史本身的細節結閤得特彆好，有點微言大義之感，有的地方冷冷靜靜長篇論述有的地方又讓人想哭齣來...讀完第六章的時候正好在車站等車，晚上又黑又濕隻有巴士站的一點燈光，仿佛覺得自己也是時光外的幽靈。
