據說這是為瞭懷念他母親的，雖然福老不肯在文字裏摻雜一點感情，字裏行間還是會讀齣溫情脈脈。福老寫包法利夫人時花兩個月寫十三頁，說寫得"as perfect as I can make them"，還說"As writers.. one ought to know everything.. but we know nothing.. "。纔華橫溢卻焚膏繼晷，學富五車卻虛懷若榖，這就是境界吧。
