Men will say “I love you” to get women into bed with them; women will say “I love you” to get men into marriage with them; both will say “I love you” to keep fear at bay, to convince themselves of the deed by the word, to assure themselves that the promised condition has arrived, to deceive themselves that it hasn’t yet gone away.

簡直太棒

前幾個chapter簡直brilliant. 感覺又讀到瞭一個不一樣的Barnes, capable of sending laughter and shudder simultaneously to his readers. 超愛宗教審判woodworm那一章(oh into the darkness of imbecility fell Hugo the Bishop)，準備攻讀”the criminal prosecution and capital punishment of animals”, just for context.

若是一本文學性高、又不是非常非常小眾的書，豆瓣讀書的評語都讓我感到無可復加。。我隻是慶幸這本書是由十個小故事加半段理論闡述組成，於是任由我的夜班巔來倒去也不用擔心自己遺忘瞭過去讀過的重要細節。若要我說一下對這本書的印象，一位豆友總結得太好：“精神病人思路廣。”

Sometimes satirical, sometimes sympathetic, sometimes parodic, sometimes philosophical, Julian Barnes exerts his magic on human history and leaves the reader astonished, amused, and deeply provoked.

History is not what happened, but what historian told us. 很奇怪的感觉，并不喜欢这本书讽刺性的语言和感觉。但是却无论如何都放不下，总是能细细琢磨出一些味道！喜欢ch8后面的半章，喜欢第十章！天堂是什么？其实我们所向往的没有忧愁，应有尽有的天堂，生活在那里的人们...  

我对那些写得特别怪的小说有着特别的热情。早就听说过英国后现代小说家朱利安•巴恩斯（Julian Barnes），那天当我在一堆旧书中发现这本《10 1/2卷人的历史》（林本椿、宋东升合译，译林出版社，2002），当即毫不犹豫地买了下来。 后现代小说虽然古怪有趣，但很多可读性不...  

对每一个活在当下的人来说，历史都是个头疼的问题。头疼在于你无法确认历史的真相，你读到的历史有不同的角度、不同的记述；很多时候，同一件事情、同一个人，会有不同的历史记述，——正史、野史、稗史，官修的、私人记录或者解读的，纷繁复杂地一股脑儿涌过来，令人目不暇给...
