But it was Forster's next book, Howards End, a story about who would inhabit a charming old country house (and who, in a larger sense, would inherit England), that earned him recognition as a major writer. Centered around the conflict between the wealthy, materialistic Wilcox family and the cultured, idealistic Schlegel sisters-and informed by Forester's famous dictum 'Only connect'-it is full of tenderness towards favorite characters. 'Howards End is a classic English novel . . . superb and wholly cherishable . . . one that admirers have no trouble reading over and over again,' said Alfred Kazin.

霍華德莊園是我看過的人物關係發展最不自然、最牽強的“名著”。

E.M.Foster書中的象徵比較多，看《霍華德莊園》這本書的時候斷斷續續看瞭很久，書中有挺多內容比較難懂，但不管怎麼說，都是對轉型時期的英國的一種描繪吧，還有女性主義各個角度都可以解讀。

斷斷續續看瞭很久終於看完瞭，英國作傢寫的小說要比美國的難讀很多，我隻能說我看懂瞭五分之四的情節吧，還有五分之一的細節之類的，尤其是最後，沒太看懂，也不想深究瞭，不過很喜歡兩位主角～尤其是喬治

Love is not a "thing", it is a feeling. It has no shape, no colour, no smell and no taste, but it is the most wonderful enjoyment one can possess on our very planet. At least I believe so. Mentioning that, I have to admit it also can be a most torturous ago...
