Like Robson's suicide/story, like A's suicide/story, like T's memory, history just cannot be retrieve . we cant hit the replay button and watch what happened. memory is a tricky thing. So maybe instead of trying to find an ending, a meaning, live the moment and find peace for the past. don't stress yourself too much to solve the mystery

虽然有人说巴恩斯靠这本拿了布克奖实在有点安慰奖的成分，但这真的是杰作啊！不过，说实话，核心剧情有点让我措手不及，或者说难以接受……书中有大量的反思性段落，不但关乎自我、人生、历史，其实也是作者对文学创作的反思，更因而带有一点元小说的意味。多少人活在自欺、规避、自我想象之中呢？这真是一场沉重的自我审判。另，郭国良的译本有很多地方处理得很灵活巧妙，值得学习，虽然也存在某些小错误。

最爱的一本当代小说了。

"History is the lies of the victors, the self-delusion of the defeated, a raw onion sandwich, certainty produced at the point where the imperfections of memory meet the inadequacies of documentation."

异常精彩的suspense，最为精彩的就是看到最后我还是没有看懂怎么回事- - 而且在正文结束后留了足足五页的白纸这是为了哪般呢又？想到这里突然觉得真好精彩啊。因为我-作为读者将要返回到书中去make my own sense out of it！

Short on emotional range, and the narrator is at best unconvincing: arid, willful, and at times shows too much alacrity to shift his "reevaluation" of the past (more so nearer the end of the novel); one also wonders if this meditation on ageing, death and ...
