This new edition is an introduction to systemic functional linguistics which explores the social semiotic approach to language most closely associated with the work of M.A.K. Halliday. It incorporates several important developments within systemic linguistics, including a new chapter on the logical relations of the clause complex, discussion of the application of systemic linguistics to the analysis of multi-modal texts and clarification of systemics as a critical theory of meaning in the context of post-structuralist critical and cultural theories.

作為一本係統功能語言學的入門書籍確實不錯，有理論又有實例，雖然個彆地方有一些筆誤，但瑕不掩瑜。尤其是對text, context等方麵講的很清楚。對比Thompson的那本introducing functional grammar，我個人更喜歡這一本。
