语言和风格不错。章别划分却按照纪录片的功能和性质。不太符合history或theory一类课程设置。也许更适合做reference。

第二版真的好。首章格外好。对于外行来说，解释了纪录片为何。既没有执着于区分去fiction/cinema的区别，但也解释了许多困惑。Were documentary a reproduction of reality, these problems would be far less acute. ……But documentary is not a reproduction of reality, it is a representation of the world we already occupy. 但对于拍摄者，本书后半部分会对创作有桎梏。美国的纪录片还是更接近新闻，叙事宏达，肩负道义。与时俱进，基本每章开头都改过，还提出了fiction和documentary的交集。
